A  Tedious Process

I don’t know about anyone else, but I have seen several debates too many in recent months.  Republican candidates are ripping each other apart in their efforts to become the standard bearer of the GOP against Barack Obama in the 2012 election.  This contest has been going on for far too long, with no end in sight.
Any of these candidates would be a better president than Barack Obama, with the possible exception of Ron Paul, whose bizarre ideas on foreign policy rival Obama’s in the threat they present to the national security.  So far the Republican candidates have provided Barack Obama and the Democrats with ammunition he will certainly use against the survivor of this circular firing squad.  In spite of the damage Republicans are doing to each other, there are a few factors that may save them from themselves.
Barack Obama is a known quantity now.  No matter what he says, he can not change the reality of what he has done as president.  He is the most radically left wing president in America’s history.  He obviously has less regard for the Constitution than any president before him.  One example is that he is on record proposing reductions in health care benefits for American military personnel.
Presumably he makes that proposal in an effort to save money.  But he has raised the national debt by trillions of dollars and wasted more than $500 million tax dollars on fiascos like Solyndra, which was a political decision implemented in an underhanded manner.   For him to want to cut benefits for our military when he is wasting millions shoveling money to his political allies in the unions smacks of corruption.
The problem for Obama and the Democrats is the wide spread feeling of discontent millions of Americans have for politicians who are obviously not performing their duties satisfactorily.  Yet they have generous retirement packages after just one term in office.  There is no way to justify telling our military that they will not receive traditional retirement benefits after twenty years of service.  Obama’s attitude reflects the negative view of the America he went around he world apologizing for as soon as he was elected.
Obama is damaged goods.  He is not the person he portrayed himself to be when he campaigned in 2008.  Millions of people enthusiastically voted for him.  They now realize that he is not the person they voted for.   There were enough of them to elect him.  He deceived them and they are angry.  Perhaps furious is a better description.  It is embarrassing feeling that you have been manipulated.  They will not vote for him again.
Another factor to consider is the media.  The so called main stream media (MSM) unashamedly helped Obama become president.  Magazines like Newsweek and old line TV outlets like ABC, NBC and others disgraced themselves with their biased reporting.   Fox News is the dominant source of news today because of that bias.
Even Fox has been responsible for dragging the process out with yet another debate.  All of these sources control the flow of information.   It is a problem when TV personalities sit around talking to each other around the clock informing voters which issues they should be concerned about.  They should not be deciding which issues voters should focus on in determining who they will vote for.
There is a reason for this situation, given the twenty four hour news presentation.  After all, talking heads have to have something to talk about.  But there are many concerns that the American people will address when they vote in November.  The media is presenting the political process as a horse race.  They keep tensions high by frequently pointing to the president’s political gifts.  They do not factor in the sense of betrayal felt by those who voted for the Barack Obama he pretended to be.
The Democrats, led by the president, are committed to running a divisive campaign that slanders Republicans and especially the Tea Party movement.  They will declare that racism is the reason people question Obama’s leadership.  That is despicable.  But they know that if there is any focus on the record they established when they had a majority in both Houses of Congress and a Democratic president, they will lose the elections.
I don’t care what the talking heads in the media or the Democrats say.    Obama and his Party are going to pay the price for impoverishing this country.  They do not want Obama to transform America into a replica of those European countries that are bankrupt and disintegrating because of their failed socialist economic policies.
